Credit Card Fees To Be Considered

PORT Stephens Council is considering applying credit card fees to all payments made at its administration building and through the Australia Post Postbillpay service.

An information report for a committee meeting tomorrow said the council paid merchant service fees of about $93,000 a year.

Introducing a 1 per cent credit card fee in its fees and charges for 2007-08 would allow the organisation to recover up to $78,500 a year.

Credit card fees would not apply to payments made at council businesses that operate in a competitive environment, including its holiday parks, children's services, visitors centre and waste transfer stations.
